Kitty Carlisle Hart

She wore elegant gowns to sit on a panel on a game show...she was impeccably dressed and classy in the 1970's when "come as you are" was the prevailing style.

According to the NY Times obit, Mr. Hart furnished and ran the household, even chosing Kitty's clothes.

Why am I not surprised?

I too can remember Kitty Carlisle sweeping onto the stage of Bud Collyer's To Tell the Truth with her chiffon stole or wrap trailing behind her. As I recall, the other regulars were Peggy Cass, Tom Poston and Orson Bean. I don't remember Kitty on What's My Line--I think Arlene Francis and Dorothy Killgallen (comparable NY socialites of the time) were the female regulars on that show. Pity Kitty didn't marry Conway Twitty.

I met her at the opening night for the revival of The Man Who Came to Dinner back when I was working at Roundabout. She seemed as fragile as spun sugar.
