Blowoff NYC

Almost every-local-one was there. (Little David was not available, and this is not an RJ kind of event, but, I swear, almost everyone else from our NYC blogfamily was in attendance.) I guess that made it the de rigeur social end-of-summer event.

Once again, the music caught my attention more than once. Some would call that damning with faint praise, but I am among those who rarely notice the music. Most often, for me, the music is like a mosquito. I can ignore it and then leave the room before it finds me. Not so during BLOWOFF. Mould and Morel are masters. They do what one always hopes for: remix with betterment. They say to a song "I think this is really what you were meant to be." And, they are most often correct.

The crowd was not up to the event. In DC, Blowoff is deliriously fun. Here, it was a bit more reserved. Next time ought to be better. Also, I learned a new phrase: "Heatherbears", as in, "There were a lot of Heatherbears in attendance." This, I am told, is a reference to a movie about pretty but mean high school girls all of whom are named Heather." Heatherbears are attractive bears with bad attitude. There are many of us who can without audace consider ourselves attractive (see the photo made by Joe of me below of which I am well pleased), but our looks are not our essence. Our looks are accidental. Heatherbears have only their looks and their insecurities and their haughty bad behavior. However, it's good to have had the Heatherbears at this Blowoff, as they are sure to justify their weekend by pumping up the cache of the event and thereby increasing its future attendance. Sigh.

Here's Jim (Our houseguest and a good friend for more than twenty years), Joey (Do you get the image on his shirt? Sound it out. He's got a lot of...nerve.), Craig, C and Aaron:

I don't get his shirt... It looks like a hanging kangaroo... and "hanging kangaroo" isn't naughty, is it?

I thought it was a kangaroo at first. Then I tried goat, then dog. Is it "hung dog"? Oh wait, I just looked more closely. Hung like a horse. Bingo!

Tony, I really enjoyed meeting you at Blowoff. Unfortunately, holding any kind of conversation at an event like that is very difficult. Here's hoping I get a better chance at more interesting chats. By the way, I actually thought it was the best Blowoff I have been to yet.

That is a very handsome picture of you. It well-pleases me, too.

And Aaron... damn. He makes my altimeter jump!

I Hold out hope that BLOWOFF decides to take a roadtrip to some of the bigger gay clubs around the country. I am jealous of you east coasters. I thought hung like a mule at first (must have shoes on my mind) but then said DUH, horse, and had to laugh at myself. The Alzheimer moments just keep piling up...

I see it in your eyes.
And I've seen glimpses of it in your writing.
Deep within, you know there is a better way.

Ah yes it is hung like a horse...and after seeing some of Joe's online profiles...quite accurate.

Aside from being unavailable, it is precisely the situation that Charles described that makes these events unappealing to me. Had I been free, I would have made other plans anyway. Sorry Tony, just not my thing.

I agree, a very flattering pic. And I love "Heatherbears"...now all I need is an early warning system..."Here comes a Heatherbear! Just ignore it and it'll go away on it's own."

Dear Anonymous,

While it is true that I am without rest, what do you know that I, who am loved and who love, do not know?

I know what I see when I look in your eyes, and read thru your archived posts. Back before anything cynical and superficial, back in your childhood, before something painful. Back then, there was something there that you still seek. Good luck and God bless.

Perhaps you meant “cachet” instead of “caché” ?

Thanks, Carl. Usually the Mac spots and fixes that sort of thing, letting me get lazy about it, but it must have been out to lunch. Also, I have no clue about how to enter an accent mark from this keyboard.

In that photo of C, JMG looks like he has a devil face...........

I wasn't there either [because I don't know how to dance *gasp* and also because I'm not hairy enough].

Oh well.

To this day, I still haven't availed myself of a Blowoff CD. I assume they have CDs out, yes?

and you should be well pleased. that is a fetching photo indeed. the dark tilting eyebrows are a fine contrast with the eyes and the great smile. if course, looking at the pix, all of your blog buddies are fetching indeed. is it new york? do you take and discard 100 photos, posting the perfect last one?

so glad the posters above figured out the hanging horse; i would never have gotten it.
