Should we judge Pope Francis?
http://southfloridagaynews.com/articles/should-we-judge-pope-francis/126931
I hope you non-Catholics will find my reflections helpful. Catholics often presume that everyone understands the sin/confess/sin/confess wash cycle that is part of our tradition. I never thought about it until a classmate in Rome told me that is why he converted. He said Catholic boys got to do everything and then just go to confession once a week! Anyway: Here's what I said about Pope Francis' recent comments.

Please support my SMARTRide
https://www.thesmartride.org/smart-ride-10/2580/
As a gay tour guide and travel writer, I have been on a bike more often this year than ever before in my 62 years. Unless the knees give out before November, I will be bicycling 165 miles from Miami to Key West to raise money to support HIV/AIDS organizations and initiatives.
This won't mean much without your support.
You know I'll be posting photos and writing about every juncture of the ride. Please consider cheering me on with your donation. Thanks!

The new garden at Cumberlinda
It's important to know what is in your dirt. Here, I wrestled with roots from the maples we just had removed and I am finding rocks and chunks of pavement from an old patio or path about eight inches below the lawn. There are submerged buckets of cement that had been used to support the metal pipes of a trellis/pergola the remains of which are stored in the rafters of the garage. I'm breaking my back doing this digging but I like it. Looking at the rest of the lot, I'm thinking of paying someone with a nice big machine to clear out the rest, but I can't bear the thought of becoming Ian McClellan in Gods and Monsters. Meanwhile, so as not to lose the season, plants (including the fig tree!) wait in pots on the deck, like patient immigrants on the planks off the boat at Ellis Island.

Let the conclave begin. My predictions.
Just published is my prediction for the papal election. My short list of 5 names, including info about which cardinals are gay and which ones would be good for women and gay Catholics.

Sea and Symphony for Sebrina Alfonso
I loved interviewing the lesbian conductor of the South Florida Symphony, and her partner. (See how the comma after symphony is really important there? Sebrina does not conduct Jacqueline!)

Christopher Brosius Perfume God
Please check out page 8 of the newest issue of The Mirror for my profile of Christopher Brosius.
I don't think he'll mind that the editor calls him out as a "perfume god" on the cover.
The Mirror is a nationally distributed publication of sfgn.com but you can read it online.

Gay Press Gay Power
Check out my SFGN review of Tracy Baim's book Gay Press Gay Power. I enjoyed my conversation with her. She speaks with authority and insight.

2013—The Year To Be Perfectly Queer
They asked for my predictions for 2013.
(I'm particularly pleased with my "From Abercrombie & Fitch to Maclarens-for-hitched" line.)
