Ohmigosh, yes! My neighborhood in Sarasota, the oldest one in the city, is being swallowed by these monsters. It was understood from the start that the money for the homes came from illegal drugs.

Old houses are being razed and new ones must perch 14 feet above sea level. So stairs leading to the front door look like something out of Hollywood; huge, grotesque entryways lit with a dozen floodlights and adorned with pillars, arches, several kinds of tile, stucco, and so much more defy you to enter the home. (No one does, of course. They enter from under the house where the car is parked.)

Bling is the new black.

Damn! That is a whole lot of ugly.. pardon me, I need to go bleach my eyeballs now. To paraphrase the incomparable Edna Woolman Chase- Homes can be bought. Taste one must possess.
