Selling stuff

Out it all goes. Beginning today, the great downsizing. If you see something you like, let me know. Make an offer. Let's haggle like Neopolitan putanas. Otherwise most of it will go to auction.

I want to see a picture of the interior drawer construction, front and back. That will tell us everything we need to know about the quality of the entire suite. Mahogany? Maple burl?

Birdie,
the drawers are dove tailed front and back.
mixed veneer. all intact. bakelite and metal hardware all intact.

Tell us more! The gentlemen's chest and dresser make me think the suite is from the '30's or '40's. The hardware and wear marks on the bed makes me think so too, but I could be way off.

What is its origin? Provenance? And is this what it feels like to be a Neapolitan putana?

I got it at auction more than twenty years ago. I think it is from the 30s. I had to take the varnish off the top of the dresser and the nightstand and refinish those parts with urethane.

We have not yet hit the level of Neopolitan putana. We need to start shouting at each other and hurling insults.

Well, I've admired her pouty lips and suite musculature. I feel a remark about the facelift, even at her age, would be out of line at this point. What's her price?

Such a pity it would be cost prohibitive to ship to this part of the world!
Mmmmm! Very nice!

Same here, Brion.

On the other hand, he doesn't seem to have had any bids on them yet. So maybe I should offer $5 and see if he'll include shipping... ;)

Definitely 1930s Deco and VERY nice examples of the style. That standing armoire is a great piece of furniture. You two aren't only great men, you've got really great taste.

Beautiful furniture. I have a similar chest of drawers and 2 side dressers all with those beautiful bakelite handles -- love those handles -- I got mine at a Goodwill 10 years ago for $40 for the set! A friend and I rushed them out of the store in case someone noticed what amounted to virtually robbery!

meanwhile, why are you downsizing this beautiful stuff?

ps LOVE that radio!!!

You're killing me. I have neither space nor finances to take on any of this. Unless you'd take $25 for the dresser.

(I imagine this is where the name-calling sets in)

The radio and bell are spectacular.

I am such a fan of your Deco stuff!

But I'm an even bigger fan of "downsizing".

Or what I call "editing to the point of being right sized". have fun with it!!

My wife wants that bell. I don't know what for. Maybe I can ring that one.
She lurks on your site, and she's been...changing.
How much do you want?

Tony Adams said...

Dear Coozledad,

Oddly, I have that effect on women.

I've had two offers on the bell but no deposit yet so it is still available. I'd love to sell it to a reader. email me and we can discuss price.
